The Obituary of Mrs. Emma Marie Stickfort, nee Theodore

Mrs. Emma Marie Stickfort, daughter of Mr. Wilhelm Theodore and his wife Anna Dehn, was born on a farm in Clayton County, Iowa, just a few miles east of Garnavillo, on May 7, 1899. She became a child of God on July 16, 1899, through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism administered by the Rev. F. Sommerlad, Pastor of The St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, Iowa. In 1913, she was confirmed in the Lutheran Christian Faith in the church of her baptism by Pastor K. Wm. Braun. She was an active, Communicant member of this congregation and its women's organizations for most of her life.

On January 10, 1918, Miss Emma Theodore and Mr. Arnold J. Stickfort were united in holy matrimony in the bride’s home by the Rev. K. Wm. Braun, Pastor of The St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed by eight children; namely, Fern, Earl, Leona, Ivanelle, Lena and Christina, Irma and Mary who died shortly after birth.

Mrs. Stickfort lived her entire life in this area. Following a fruitful life of service to her Lord, her family, and to others, Mrs. Stickfort was called by our heavenly Father to her eternal home at about 2:45 o'clock, Saturday afternoon, October 30, 1975. She thus attained the goodly age of 77 years, 5 months, and 23 days.

Mrs. Stickfort was preceded in death by her husband (Mr. Arnold J. Stickfort), 1 daughter (Mary), 1 sister (Lena Theodore), 1 brother (Alto Theordore), and 1 grandson (Aaron Hempeler). She leaves to mourn her departure; 1 son (Mr. Earl Stickfort, Sr., Garnavillo, Iowa), 6 daughters Mrs. Alvin Terveen, Emery, S.D.; Mrs. Stanley Schroeder, Garnavillo, Iowa; Mrs. Verdis Schlake, Luana, Iowa; Mrs. Arlyn Hempeler, Garnavillo, Iowa; Mrs. Virgil Niehaus, Guttenburg, Iowa; and Mrs. Verni Blume, Garnavillo, Iowa; 1 brother (Mrs. Wm. Theodore, Sioux Falls, S.D.), 1 sister (Mrs. Sophia Mueller, Sioux Falls, S.D.), 21 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 2, 1976 at 11:00, AM at The St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, performed by The Rev. L.C. Urlaub.
