Obituary for Arnold Stickfort:

Mr. Arnold Julius Stickfort was born on a farm in Garnavillo Township; Clayton County, Iowa, on July 25, 1893. On September 13, of the same year, he became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism administered by the Rev. E. T. Dickhoff, Pastor of The St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, Iowa. On March 24, 1907, Mr. Stickfort was confirmed in the Lutheran Christian Faith in the St. Peter Lutheran Church., Garnavillo, Iowa, by the Rev. T. Mall. He remained a member of the Lutheran Church throughout his life. About the time of his marriage he joined The St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. He maintained his membership in this congregation for the remainder of his life. During his membership here he was active in the affairs of the congregation, and he served both as church councilman and church officer.

On January 10, 1918, Mr. Stickfort and Miss Emma Theodore were united in holy matrimony in the bride's home by the Rev. H. M. Braun, Pastor of the St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed by eight children; namely, Fern, Earl, Leona, Ivanelle, Lena and Christina, Irma, and Mary who died hortly after birth.

Mr. Stickfort lived his entire life in the community of Garnavillo, Iowa, and was always engaged in the business of farming. He was interested and active in various community activities, and he was a charter member of the Farm Bureau Organization.

Following a long and fruitful life of service to his Lord, his church, his family, and to others, Mr. Stickfort was rather suddenly and unexpectedly called to his eternal home by our heavenly Father at about 3:00 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, January 3, 1967. He thus attained the goodly age of 73 years, 5 months, and 9 days.

Mr. Stickfort was preceded in death by his daughter Mary in 1929, by his grandson Aaron in 1965, and by 7 brothers (Henry, Fred, Ben, August, Charles, William, and Edward.). He leaves to mourn his departure: his wife (Mrs. Emma Stickfort, Clayton, Iowa); 1 son (Mr. Earl Stickfort, Clayton, Iowa); 6 daughters (Mrs. Alvin Terveen, Emery, So. Dak., Mrs. Stanley Schroeder, St. Olaf, Iowa, Mrs. Verdis Schlake, Luana, Iowa, Mrs. Arlyn Hempler, Garnavillo, Iowa, Mrs. Virgil Niehaus, Guttenberg, Iowa, and Mrs. Verni Blume, Clayton, Iowa.); one brother (Mr. John Stickfort, Canistota, So. Dak.); three sisters (Mrs. Lottie Kobernusz, Man1y, Iowa, Mrs. Nanie Mueller, Farmersburg, Iowa, and Mrs. Christina Gruhlke, Palisade, Minn.); 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
