Mrs. Elizabeth Kerr, wife of James Kerr, died at her home in Highland Township March 4, 1896, after a long and severe illness at the age of 62 years, nine months and 29 days. The deceased was the oldest daughter of Robert and Agnes Blunie, born in Scotland in the year 1833, came to America with her parents during the year of 1840, and settled in Dundee, Cane County, Illinois, was married to James Kerr in the year 1850, and lived there until 1854, coming to Iowa, in the same year and settled in Highland, Clayton County, where she has since resided. Unto her was born 15 children of whom 13 survive to mourn their loss. viz: Thomas, the eldest, living near home; Agnes, the wife of William Young; Murrie, wife of George Fairweather; James, Robert, Hannah; Anna, wife of Willis Pardee; and Edward, all of Chicago; John living near home, Urias, Elizabeth, Henry, and Jesse, living at home. She leaves a brother and one sister to realize the loss of a devoted and loving sister. 18 grand children also survive her. She was a member of the first Presbyterian church of Dundee, Illinois, and always loved a Christian life. All of her children also her brother and sister were present to attend the funeral and take a last view of her remains. Her children all arise and call her blessed. The funeral which was largely attended was held from the Union church, and the services conducted by Rev. Cruson of the Presbyterian church of Volga City, Iowa, and the remains interred in the Illyria Cemetery.
