NORTH BUENA VISTA, Iowa - Celestine F. "Celly" Ludovissy, 84, of 203 Main St., North Buena Vista, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at the Guttenberg (Iowa) Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dyersville Post 137. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m. Members of the American Legion, Dyersville Post 137 are to meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ludovissy farmed in the Buenie area all of his life. He also worked as a machinist at John Deere Dubuque Works for 34 years until his retirement on March 1, 1981.

He was born on May 10, 1920, in Turkey River, son of Joseph and Theresia (Welty) Ludovissy.

He served with the Marine Corps during World War II in Denmark, Norway and England.

He married Ivanelle Riniker on Oct. 7, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista; she died on Aug. 8, 1965. He later married Kathryn A. Tilp on July 28, 1987, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, North Buena Vista. He also was a member of the American Legion, Dyersville Post 137 and the Guttenberg Eagles Post 4114.

Celly's work and hobby was farming. He especially liked to visit with his family and friends. He was an avid Cubs fan.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn A. Ludovissy, of North Buena Vista; a daughter, Marlene M. (David) Errthum, of North Buena Vista; three sons, Mark A. (Diane) Ludovissy, Kenneth W. (Sheila) Ludovissy and James F. (Linda) Ludovissy, all of North Buena Vista; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mary Engling, of North Buena Vista; three brothers, Francis "Duke" (Louise) Ludovissy and Clarence (Madonna) Ludovissy, both of Guttenberg, and Walter (Laurie) Ludovissy, of North Buena Vista; and nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Ludovissy.

A Celestine F. Ludovissy Memorial Fund has been established.
