GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Mrs. Frank (Betty L.) Hefel, 72, of the Guttenberg Care Center, formerly of North Buena Vista, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2000, at the care center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church hall.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1928, in McGregor, daughter of Walter and Dora (Eberhart) Boyce.
She married Frank Hefel on April 16, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Church, North Buena Vista. They owned and operated Hefel's Marina and Hefel's Tavern in North Buena Vista for many years.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, and its rosary society. She was an avid reader and enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together.
Surviving are two sisters, Mae M. Ewing, of North Buena Vista, and Shirley A. (Henry) Kann, of Guttenberg; a brother, John W. "Bill" Boyce, of North Buena Vista; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hefel, on July 30, 1979; and a sister, Mrs. Carl (Dorina) Cocanougher.
A Betty L. Hefel Memorial Fund has been established.
