Another one of our old pioneers has gone to rest. Halvor H. Wikan passed away at the home of his son in Highland township on Friday, November 6th, 1914. About ten years ago Mr. Wikan had a stroke of apoplexy and has been almost helpless since that time. For the past few years he has suffered with kidney trouble and presently had two operations performed for it. He had the best of medical attendance and nursing and was thought to be improving but took suddenly ill and passed away as stated above.

Halvor H. Wikan was born in Opdal, Numedal, Norway, October 23RD, 1837, and in 1864 was united in marriage with Miss Wlvil Bryngulson, also of Norway. They came to this country in the spring of 1869, settling in Clayton county and remaining here until their deaths, the wife passing away on October 25TH, 1896. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, the two oldest dying in early childhood and the third, Bernt, dying at the age of twenty years. Four children are left to mourn the death of their father, viz; H.H. Wikan; Ingaborg, now Mrs. C.O. Christianson; Luvina, now Mrs. John J. Johnson and Lars H. Wikan, now on the old homestead. The funeral was held on Tuesday, November 10TH, conducted by Rev. C.H. Hjorsholm in both the English and Norwegian languages and the body was laid to rest in the Marion cemetery. Throught his life Mr. Wikan was a faithful follower of the Norway Lutheran Church.
