Elkader, Ia. - Funeral services for John C. Powell, 86, were held here Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Witt Funeral Chapel with the Rev. George Richter, pastor of the Congregational Church, and the Rev. D.A. Flesner, past of the Zion Lutheran church at Clayton Center, officiating. Burial was in the Eastside Cemetery.

Mr. Powell died Wednesday at the home of his son, S.H. Powell, at Clayton Center, following a brief illness. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Powell and was born Sept. 26, 1856, at Mitchell. He accompanied his parents to Elkader at an early age and on May 29, 1879, was married to Kate Smith, who preceded him in death. Surviving are one son, Sidney, and three grandchildren.
