Ruth Anna Gunderson

Ruth Anna Gunderson, 92, Monona, Iowa died Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa.

Ruth, the daughter of John and Augusta (Scheffert) Bonzer, was born April 3, 1921 in rural Monona, Iowa. She graduated from Monona High School in 1939. Ruth attended Pitzi’s Beauty School in Waterloo, Iowa.

Ruth was united in marriage with Emmet Gunderson on March 19, 1946 in Monona, Iowa. To this union, 6 children were born. Emmet preceded her in death on December 23, 2000. Ruth was a stay at home mom when her children were young. She then worked at McGregor Electronics, Postville Turkey Plant and Monona Wire. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and fishing.

Ruth is survived by 5 children, Anna (Larry) Schroeder of Monona; Mary (Jerry) Schroeder of Luana, Iowa; Robert (Connie) Gunderson of Monona; Dean Gunderson of Monona; and Susan (Craig Jensen) White of Elgin, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Ethan (Amy) Schroeder, Jared (Nicole) Schroeder, April (John) Goode, Bettina (Jim) Hewitt, Jay Schroeder, Jyl (Dave) Huskey, Christopher (Heidi) Gunderson, Timothy (Sarah) Gunderson, Linn (Corinne Cole) White, and Leif (Jennifer) White; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Tigges of Dubuque, Iowa; and Helen Knockel of Monona.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Emmet; a daughter who died in infancy; one grandson, Layne Schneider; and three siblings, John Bonzer, Mathilda Bonzer, and Doris Koehn.

Visitation will be Friday, September 27, 2013 from 5 – 8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Living Faith United Methodist Parish in Monona, Iowa with Reverend Dennis Hopes as the officiant.

Interment will follow at the Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
