Elgin Echo, Thur., 7 September 1899.

Tuesday about noon, Henry Weihe, a wealthy farmer residing on Henderson Prairie, near Postville, and aged sixty-four years, accidentally fell from the cupola of his barn and was instantly killed.

Just before dinner Mr Weihe announced his intention of going to the cupola, which is thirty-five feet above the barn floor, to stop-up holes in the same through which doves were gaining entrance to the hay lofts. His son requested him not to go and supposed his father had returned to the house. Dinner was called and the elder gentleman not responding search was made. He was found lying dead on the barn floor where he had fallen from the top of the ladder leading to the cupola. Physicians were summoned, who on examination found the neck dislocated, both legs broken below the knee, one leg broken above the knee and one hip crushed. It is supposed Mr. Weihe gained the top of the ladder and was overcome by the hot air and lost his hold upon the ladders.

Henry Weihe was well and favorably known by a large circle of acquaintances and was a man of sterling qualities. He had succeeded in life and was well-to-do. In Elgin he was a familiar figure, and was the father of Mrs. R. J. Stoehr and a relative of the Matthy and Goetz families. Funeral services are held at Postville to-day.
