KANN RITES ON MONDAY
Final rites were held Monday morning from the McBride funeral home to St. Mary's Church for Henry Kann, 94, who died last Friday morning at the Guttenberg Municipal hospital following a stroke. Mr. Kann had been hospitalized about a week.
Rev. Alfred J. Schmitz, pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiated at the Requiem High Mass and burial was in the Kann cemtery near Guttenberg. Pallbearers were Eugene Powers, Harold "Buss" Kann, Verdus Kann, Carl Kann, Virgil Kann and Gerald Block.
The rosary was recited at the funeral home Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Mr. Kann was born February 16, 1872 in Guttenberg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kann. On November 22, 1898 he married Katherine Eilers who died on August 17, 1959.
He lived his entire lifetime in the Guttenberg area, farming until about 30 years ago when he retired to make his home in town.
Surviving Mr. Kann are three chidren: Ray Kann, Clarence Kann and Mrs. Adeline Hoeger all of Guttenberg.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Kann and his late wife were the last couple to be married in the St. Michael's Church which is now known as the Kann Church. His parents and grandparents, as well as his wife, are buried in the Church cemetery.
