Selina Nyberg

Funeral services for Selina Nyberg were held Monday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. in the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. Rev. William Palmquist officiated. The Schutte Funeral service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Selina Nyberg, daughter of Jens and Olea (Olson) Jenson, was born February 9, 1892 in Marion Township, near Gunder, Iowa. She died Friday, December 12, 1986 in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. She attended the rural school near her home.

On January 22, 1915 she married Oscar J. Nyberg. They had 6 children. They lived in Gunder where her husband was in business for 30 years, then moved to Postville where he operated a farm supply store for 26 years. Selina became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville in October 1981.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, who died in 1970, five children, Elmer, Ethelinda, Archie, Allison and Allard, two brothers, Alfred and Alvin and two sisters, Josie Jenson and Florence Casten.

Surviving is a daughter, Dolores and her husband, Harland Troy, of Florissana, MO, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 3 sisters, Irene Cook and her husband, Alfred, Elkader, Velgie (Mrs. Joe Lind) of Clinton and Elvina (Mrs. Edward Brackin), Galena, MO.

She was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder and the ICW of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

Casketbearers were Gary Ash, Alan Nyberg, David Schroeder, Blake Troy, Michael Clausen, Michael Stodgel and Barry Schneider.
