Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 24 Oct. 1918. Local News columns.

MRS. JOHANNA CHRISTIANSON-JOHNSON.

Mrs. Johanna Cristianson-Johnson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ole Thoreson, in Wagner township, on Saturday, Oct. 19. She had been ill since Jan. 15, 1908, a confirmed invalid as a result of a stroke of paralysis, from which she only partially recovered.

The deceased was born in New Prestegjioeld, Hedemarken, Norway, in the fall of 1833. She grew to womanhood in the place of her birth and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In 1861 she was united in marriage to Christian Christianson. The family came to this country in 1875 and settled on a farm in Wagner township, which has since been their home.

The marriage was blessed with six children, two boys and four girls, of whom two are living, Edward Johnson and Mrs. Ole Thoreson with whom the deceased made her home for the last seventeen years of her life.

Before her affliction Mrs. Christianson was active in her service to her family and her friends, a kind neighbor, a regular attendant of the service in the Norway Lutheran church, of which she was a member, and of the Ladies Aid Society in her district. During the long period of her illness she was a patient sufferer and delighted in meditating on God's word, enjoying the communion of the Lord's Supper on several occasions. She had a remarkable memory and could quote long passages from the Bible, parts of her catechism and hymns she had learned from her church hymn book when she was young.

She is mourned by her two children and their families and a host of friends who sorrow at their loss but feel confident for the future, knowing that she died in the peace of the Lord.

She was laid to rest Monday in the cemetery by the Norway church, her pastor Rev. Arveson officiating and the St. Olaf choir furnishing the singing.
