DEATH CLAIMS ELKADER YOUNG MAN
Otto Henry Witt Passed Away Suddenly Sunday
The people of Elkader were deeply grieved to learn on Sunday morning that Otto H. Witt, had died suddenly at near noon. While he had been in poor health for some years, it was not anticipated that he was near to death at that.
Otto Henry Witt was born at Volga City, Iowa, Sept. 3, 1882, and died at his home in Elkader Sunday, May 2, 1918, aged 35 years, 8 months and 29 days.
He was the second child of Mr. ad Mrs. William E. Witt, the others in the family being George of Indiana Harbor, Ind., William and Mrs. Louis Busching, both of Elkader. These, with the father and mother and other relatives, mourn the passing of this dutiful son and brother and a young man of most excellent character.
He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on the 22nd day of October the year he was born, and was confirmed in that church at Postville in the year 1901. He has held to the faith of his infancy to the time of his death.
Otto came to Elkader with his parents when he was a small boy later moving to Postville with them, and still later returning to this place. He was a sufferer from asthma from early boyhood, and spent a number of years in Denver, Colo., seeking relief from this affliction. While there he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Freund. About three years ago he, with his brother William and his sister Alta, went to Tucson, Ariz., for the winter, thinking a warmer climate might be more beneficial. In the spring of the same year they returned home, Otto continuing to reside here with his parents until his death.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, services being at the home and in the Ev. Friedens church, Rev. C. H. Franke, his pastor, officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery. A very large number of people, relatives and friends, attended the services as an expression of their esteem for the departed and sympathy for the surviving relatives. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, in an attempt to soften the sorrow that the family feels for their loss. A feature of the funeral was that the pall bearers were all cousins of the deceased, namely: Henry Reinhardt, H. C. Conrad, George Hochhaus, Arthur Hochhaus, L. Krieg and Harold Krieg
