Diedrich Kregel, who passed away at his home on Friday, May 31st, was born on Sept. 28, 1832, in Chillicothe, Ohio. His early life was spent in Ohio and Alabama, later the family moving to Garnavillo.
On July 17, 1856, he married Helena Cortjen. Nine children blessed this union, four preceding the father in death.
Since 1901 Mr. and Mrs. Kregel have lived in town, where in 1906 they celebrated their golden wedding. For several years the deceased had been in failing health but only a few days before his death did his condition become serious.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, two sons, George of Nebraska City, Nebr., and Alvin, of Garnavillo; and three daughters, Mrs. Anna Roggman of Garnavillo, Mrs. Emma Schmidt of Elkader and Cornelia Drahn of Minneapollis, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday at St. Paul's church, Rev. Brown officiating.
