Information provided by Alan F. E. Thiese

Born: December 22, 1914 near Clayton, Iowa.
Died: December 24, 1999 at Finley Hospital,
Dubuque, Iowa.
Buried at: Ceres Cemetery at the Pioneer Rock Church along U.S. Highway 52 between Guttenberg, Iowa and Garnavillo, Iowa. This site is very near the farm he operated from 1941 until his move to Garnavillo in the 1980's.

The following obituary is retyped from "The Clayton County Register" published on December 29, 1999.

Funeral services were held for Ferdinand "Ferdy" Otto Thiese, 85, Guttenberg, on Monday, December 27, 1999 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Guttenberg with burial at the Ceres Cemetery near Guttenberg. Rev. Gregory Eilers officiated.

Pallbearers were: Shield Bozemann, Mark Keehner, Scot Schulueter, Adam Thiese, Michael Thiese, Mark Thiese, Eric Thiese, Kevin Burns, Steve Keehner, Aaron Thiese, Brian Thiese.

He was born December 22, 1914, on the farm near Clayton, Iowa, son of Ferdinand and Wilhelmina (Weseman) Thiese.

Ferdy graduated from Guttenberg High School; worked for the John Deere Works in Dubuque; and farmed with his family for many years. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

On May 3, 1939, he was united in marriage with Gertrude Borcherding at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

He died Friday, December 24, 1999, at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; three daughters, Thelma (Larry) Keehner, Luana, Vivian, (Brent) Bruns, Monona, and Angela (Ronnie) Schlueter, Wauzeka, Wisc., three sons, Alan (Janice)Thiese, Macon, Georgia, David (Norma) Thiese and John Thiese, both of Guttenberg; 21 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Proceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Louise and Alma; three brothers, Alfred, Emil and Ernst; one grandson Mathew; and one son-in-law, Larry Keehner.
