Strawberry Point, April 10.

The cars are again running to this place, which make things very lively. the frost is out of the ground so that the farmers are seeding grain many places, so that everyone and everything animate in nature seems to rejoice that old winter has passed away and that spring time had come again.

Yet amid our rejoicing we have to meet with sickness and death in our midst. Michael Carr, who lived about five miles north of this place, died of typhoid pneumonia at his residence on the 8d inst. The deceased was born in the city of New York, Sept. 5th, 1810; his father took an active part in the war of 1812 against Great Britain, was in the battle of Lunday's Lane, and other engagements. And in 1815 with his family returned with his family to Ireland, his native country. After the deceased arrived at manhood he occupied several places of trust under the English government. He was a number of years in the postoffice department in London after which he was private aid to Sir. Thomas Abernot. After many years thus engaged he had a desire to live in a country ruled by the people, and in 1848 he with his wife and child followed his aged parents to the United States and settled in Franklinville, Cattaraugus county, New York. While in that state he always took an active part in politics-- was an active supporter of democratic principles. In June, 1866 he moved to this county and settled in Sperry township, where he resided till his death. He leaves widow and two daughters (the eldest is settled in life), also two brothers to mourn his demise. His funeral was held at the Catholic church near his late residence, where mass was duly celebrated by Rev. Father Querk. The ceremonies were very impressive. At the close of services a large encourse of citizens followed his remains to their last resting place, the Catholic Cemetery, where all that was left of Michael Carr was interred. The deceased was highly respected, was a kind husband, an affectionate father, a worthy and obliging citizen. The bereaved relatives have the sympathies of the entire community in this irreparable lose.
