Funeral Services Held for Joe Lenth
Joachim William Lenth was born in Farmersburg township, Clayton county, on March 21, 1864, and was baptised at Zion Lutheran Church of Clayton Center on June 26th, of the same year. His parents were Johann Lenth and Anna nee Sypke.On November 26, 1886, (forth-five years ago) he was married at Clayton Center to Caroline Lemke, who after these many years of happy companionship, is left his bereaved widow.
This union was blessed with eleven children, two of which died in in infancy, and one as an adult, Mrs. Vera Sass, a few years ago. The surviving children are five sons and three daughters, as follows: Arthur, a resident of the state of Texas; Edwin of Luana; Lester of Colis, Minn.; Harry of Castalia; Lorenz of Luana; Mrs. Selma Seidel of Monona; Mrs. Orpha Kuthe of Farmersburg; and Mrs. Delphina Mitchell of Rocky Ford, Colorado.
Most of his life, Mr. Lenth was actively engaged in farming, living on his farm in Monona township for 44 years. In the fall of 1930 he retired and moved to Postville to occupy the fine new home he had purchased from Will Nordin on December 18th.
He passed away at his late home on Sunday, November 22, 1t 5:30 p.m., at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 1 day.
Besides his bereaved widow and his eight children, he leaves to mourn his passing, seventeen grandchildren and the following four brothers: John, Frank and August of Monona, and Herman of Elkader, and many other relatives and friends.
He was a sincere christian husband and father, an upright neighbor and friend, ready always to help in every good work. He was a faithful church member, at the time of his passing being affiliated with St. Paul's Lutheran church of this city.
Funeral services were held on last Thursday afternoon from the local St. Paul's Lutheran church with the Rev. R.B. Garten officiating. Burial in the Luana cemetery.

~Note: this obit, and the obit of his wife (see link below), both give the Luana cemetery as burial place, however photos of their gravestones were supposedly taken St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Luana. Researchers should independently verify burial place.
