Esther Margaret Engelhardt

Graveside Services were held at 11 a.m. May 6, 2013 at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, in Farmersburg, Iowa for Esther Margaret Engelhardt, 72, of Farmersburg, who died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa.

Esther Margaret Engelhardt was born October 30, 1940, a daughter of Eldo Frederick and Mildred Matilda (Fette) Meyer, on her grandparents’s farm south of Elkader, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elkader. She attended Halvorson Country School, near St. Olaf, until the 6th grade and graduated from Monona-Farmersburg High School in 1959. She was employed at Hall Roberts Son in Postville, from 1959 to 1962.

She married Valdean Fred Engelhardt on May 5, 1962. They farmed near Farmersburg where she helped her husband with the farming. She began working in May of 1977, at the Clayton County Register in Elkader, retiring in 2006. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in 2007. She enjoyed her family and grandchildren, reading, fill-in puzzles, gardening, collecting recipes, cooking and entering sweepstakes.

Esther is survived by her two sons, Dale (Alice) Engelhardt of De Forest, Wis., and Darol (LaRae) Engelhardt of Elkader, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Mathew, Megan and Mitchell and Trace, Mesa and Kaia; a brother, Merlin (Sandra) Meyer of West Salem, Wis.; 2 sisters, Norma (Fred) Korte of Arlington and Linda (Roger) Moeller of Luana; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2007.
