Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. March 26, 2013 at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, Iowa for Ruth Kruse, 94, of Elkader, who passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Elkader Care Center. Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. March 25, at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday, with interment at East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa.
Ruth was born March 19, 1919 to William Louis and Marie Margert (Doeppke) Jacob, in Boardman Township in Clayton County. She attended country school in Clayton Center and the Motor Mill area.
She was united in marriage to Eldon Louis Kruse at the parsonage of Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader on June 2, 1939. The couple resided on the family farm in rural Elkport area. Three children were born to this union.
Ruth was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and a past member of Eastern Star. After retiring from farming, she worked in Elkader at True Value and a gift shop. Most of all, she enjoyed her trips to the farm, time with her grandchildren; great-grandchildren and visiting with relatives and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Karen (Larry) Gruman of Waterloo; her son Robert (Ginger) Kruse of Elkport; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon; daughter, Adrene, son, Mark Gratace; two sisters and one brother.
