Orville F. Nuehring, 76, died Thursday in Central Community Hospital, Elkader. He was a retired custodian at the Independence Mental Health Institute.

Survivors include seven daughters, Melvina Pearson, Marilyn Martie and Margaret Jones, all of Postville, Marranda Larson of Atkins, Maryann Dundee of Luana, Marlene Yauslin of Elgin and Marcia Bruns of Decorah; five sons, M. Orville of Monona, Otto of Waukon, Owen of Wells, Minn., Oliver of Tacoma, Wash., and Omar of Postville; three brothers, Dammon of Postville, Frederick of Farmersburg and Marlin of Monona; four sisters, Francis Fette of Waseca, Minn., Leila Fett of Monona and LaVerda Welzel of Eldorado, and Lorene Swenson of Garrison, Minn.; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at Schutte's.
