Clayton County Register, Thur., 2 July 1959.

A flash of lightning took the life of Otto Hanson, 30-year-old Gunder area farmer, about 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, June 24, during hay making operations on the farm.

As an electrical storm approached, Hanson was unhitching his tractor from a hay-chopper in an effort to get out of the field ahead of the storm. His sister-in-law, Mrs. Connie Havelich, was standing nearby and saw the flash of lightning. Orvid Anderson, a neighbor, was working just ahead of Hanson in the same field.

Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. Burial was in Marion cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Boyce officiated.
