Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. September 20, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa, for Lucille Catherine Keppler, 97, of Strawberry Point, who passed away at her home on Monday, September 17, 2012. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. September 19, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point. Scripture Service was at 7:30 p.m. Friends were able to call one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment was September 20, 2012 at Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Lucille Catherine Keppler was born on August 17, 1915, in Luxemburg, the daughter of Michael and Sophia (Conrad) Ries. Lucille was raised in the area, and attended Catholic School in Luxemburg. She assisted in taking care of her family, after her father died at a young age.
On September 6, 1939, Lucille was united in marriage to Harold Keppler at Holy Trinity Church in Luxemburg, 11 children were blessed to this union. Together they farmed in the Edgewood, Arlington, and Strawberry Point areas.
Harold and Lucille enjoyed camping and fishing along the Mississippi River. Lucille loved to quilt, garden, and preserve her garden’s bounty. She was a wonderful cook and made delicious bread.
Because of declining heath, Lucille was wonderfully cared for by her son, Joe, the past several years.
Survivors include her 11 children, Patricia (Bob) Schoulte of Monona, Grace (Jerry) Lamphere of Randalia, Dave (Mary) Keppler of Lamont, Duane (Barbara) Keppler of Arlington, Frank (Iona) Keppler, Mike (Virginia) Keppler, Betty (Vaylard) Brooks, Caroline Otdoerfer, and Joe Keppler, all of Strawberry Point, Tony (Gerarda) Keppler of East Dubuque, Illinois, and Theresa (Randy) Laughead of Strawberry Point; 60 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer (Annie) Ries of Dyersville; and one sister, Delores Tigges of Dubuque.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, on December 23, 1999; two brothers, Edward and Gilbert; 5 sisters, Martha, Rosie, Marie, Sally, and Florence; two granddaughters, Kristen Keppler and Amber Rose Laughead; and one great-grandson, Austin Lamphere.
