Harold John Hoth
Harold John Hoth, 87, of Farmersburg, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Guttenberg Care Center.
He was born on the family farm in Boardman Township, rural Elkader, on April 20, 1925, to Edwin and Viola (Schloetzer) Hoth. He was baptized May 17, 1925, and confirmed on April 10, 1938. His confirmation verse was John 15:5.
Harold attended country school, walking two miles each day in all kinds of weather. A mile downhill to the one room school after chores and in the evening, a mile up the hill to supper and chores. He had to leave home with an 8th grade education at the age of 14.
Harold worked and farmed his entire lifetime. He was a self made man who believed in a hand shake and keeping his word.
On August 28, 1945, he was united in marriage to Rachel M. Brownson. Three children were born to this union.
As a young person, he helped his parents with chores every day. Later he worked for various farmers doing chores and field work. Harold was a member of the Clayton County Farm Bureau; was a helper at the county fair, where he sold tickets at the gate for many years; and was also a trustee of the Farmersburg Cemetery, a position he held also for many years.

Hoth of Greeley, CO; brother, John Hoth of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Lunida Lundt of Luana and Ivanell Henning of Elkader; sisters-in-law, Ivanelle Hoth of Elkader and JoAnn Hoth of Guttenberg.
