Delores Margaret (Dougherty) Bergstrom Mangan was born on November 12, 1929, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Pete and Leone (Bahnsen) Dougherty. She was raised in NE Iowa; attended and graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Elkader, in 1947. As the only surviving member of the class of six, she often joked that she could call her class reunion at any given moment.
She married Bill Bergstrom in August of 1949; they lived and raised their four children in Des Moines until Bill’s death. Delores was united in marriage to Bob Mangan and enjoyed living in Elkader for her remaining years.
Delores loved her family – she was raised in a large close-knit musical family, the memories of which she shared throughout her lifetime. Three decades were shared with Bill raising their children, another three with Bob enjoying their grandchildren.
She was never idle. Delores filled her time sewing, braiding rugs, quilting, crafting, etc, in all of which she showed an incredible talent. She was also an avid reader. Throughout the later years, her favorite pastime was lunch and laughter with close friends.
Survivors include daughters Patti (Don) Parker of St. Louis, MO, Beth (Rob) Heithoff of Chanhassen, MN; son Brian Bergstrom (Penny) of Des Moines; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Darlene Dittmer of Elkader, Janice Hanson of Cedar Rapids and Jeanette Prideaux of Marion; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son Mike Bergstrom; two grand-sons-in-law and six siblings.
