Dale McCormick

Dale McCormick, 83, of Harpers Ferry died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 30 at St. Mary Catholic Church, McGregor. Burial was at St. Pius Cherry Mound Cemetery, Harpers Ferry.

Dale was born August 14, 1929 to Neil and Catherine (Melvin) McCormick in McGregor. Dale was baptized, received his first communion and was confirmed at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1945.

Dale and Delpha Knapp were united in marriage October 2, 1950 at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry. Two daughters were born to this union, Barb and Joann. He joined the United States Army in 1955, and was honorably discharged in 1957.

Dale grew up on the family farm north of Marquette and helped his dad farm for many years, until 1953, when he took over. He retired to Sunshine Hill. He enjoyed playing cards, watching NASCAR, spending time with friends and family, and loved history and reading.

Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Delpha; his two daughters, Barb (Mark) Arneson of Decorah and Joann (Roi Brown) Heeren of Harmony, MN; two grandchildren, Jarrod (Christina Miller) Heeren and Tiffany (Mitchell) Zweibohmer; two step-grandchildren, Andrea Arneson and Jason (Amy) Arneson; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Ashley Zweibohmer; his sisters, Kay Hefner of McGregor, Linda (Gerald) Henkes of McGregor, Betty (Marty) Olsen of Colorado Springs, CO and Jean (Delos) Swanson of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor is helping the family with the arrangements.
