Postville Graphic, Thur., 26 Sept. 1895* (see note at the bottom). (Condensed from a column-long obit.).

IN MEMORIUM.

William P. Eno, of Wagoner, Clayton county, Iowa, died at his home July 14th, 1895, aged 67 years, 5 months and 23 days.

The deceased was born on a farm in Hatley, county of Stanstead, Province of Quebec, on January 21st, 1828, and was of Scotch ancestry. He was the eldest of seven children - four boys and three girls - of which number two brothers, Joseph and Peter, and two sisters, Mrs. Katherine C. Gordon and Mrs. Louise H. Shellito, survive him.

He worked on his father's farm until he attained his majority, attaining a rudimentary education from his mother, who had taught school prior to her marriage. He then left his father's farm for the United States, where he worked as a commercial traveler; later engaging in the wholesale notions business on his own account, until the financial panic of 1857 swept away eight years of hard work and leaving him heavily in debt. He then turned his attention to farming, having fortunately purchased 640 acres of land in Wagner township, Clayton Co., Iowa, in 1853. His father had previously sold his Canada farm and moved to Ohio, but being unsatisfied there he and his wife were induced to come to Iowa, where the mother took sole management of William's household. A few years of energy, thrift and fruitful soil combined to pay all debts and build a large commodious house and barn.

On May 8th, 1862, William was married to Mrs. Almira Niver, who died July 20th, 1870, by whom he had four children, May M., Minnie C., and Jennie R., who are now living, and Willie, who died in infancy.

On January 2d, 1871, he married Isabel E. Lytle, by whom he had two sons - William H. and John L. - all of whom survive him.

Up to the hour of his death the farm he purchased in 1851 was continuously his home since beginning tilling it in 1857.

The posting from the Postville Graphic (above)shows date of death as July 14; however this obit (below) shows June 14.) - probably a typo as the date of the paper is July 26.
