Mrs. Mary Kluss Dies Here Sunday
Mrs. Mary Leni Kluss, 81, mother of Mrs. J.L. Kingsbury, with whom she made her home, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held in the First Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. Fred Galbraith. Organ music was played by Miss Gladys Kelso. The body was shipped on the midnight train to her former home at Postville, Iowa, where services and burial will be held Tuesday. Accompanying the body were her daughter, and granddaughter, Mrs. Wesley Hart of Pecos. Pallbearers were W.T. Evers, R.L. Hopper, L.W. Newton, G.A. Odam, L.A. Sharp and C.A. Bridges.Besides the daughter, Mrs. Kluss is survived by a son, Major Walter L. Kluss, Istanbul, Turkey, a brother, William H. Leni (sic - Leui); two sisters, Miss Anna H. Leni (sic - Leui); and Mrs. Elizabeth Sonnkalb, all of Iowa. She had lived in Denton 14 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian church. She was born in Iowa Jan. 31, 1858, and was married there to the late John F. Kluss in May, 1886.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Kluss, who passed away in her home in Denton, Texas, Sunday, were held here yesterday afternoon at the home of Miss Anna Leui, at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. J. Ian Fraser of the Community Presbyterian church officiating, and interment was made in Grand Meadow cemetery.
Accompanying the remains here were her daughter, Mrs. J.L. Kingsbury of Denton, with whom the deceased made her home, and her granddaughter, Mrs. Wesley P. Hart, of Pecos, Texas. Others here for the services included Helen K. Starr of St. Paul, Minn. and Mrs. Ben Buren of Leland, Iowa.
Mrs. Kluss was born as Mary Leui, January 31, 1858, at the farm home of her parents, Jacob and Suzanne Shields Leui in Grand Meadow township. She attended the schools of her district and later entered Upper Iowa University.
She was married to John F. Luss, May 4, 1886, and three children were born to them: Major Walter L. Kluss, now located at Istanbul, Turkey, attached to the American embassy; Mabel K. Kingsbury of Denton, Texas, and Florence K. Cooke, who passed away in 1921.
Mrs. Kluss left Postville in 1908, going first to Boulder, Colo., where she lived for thirteen years after which she went to Denton which has been her home since.
She is also survived by her brother, William Leui of Postville, and two sisters, Anna H. Leui of Postville and Mrs. E.C. Sonnkalb of Coggon, and three grandchildren. Another sister, Caroline Leui, passed away in 1937.
