Obit: Charles J. Glawe - Charles J. Glawe, oldest member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, died Saturday, July 26, 1975, of infirmities of old age at Waukon Veterans Memorial hospital.
Mr. Glawe was born December 20, 1884, at Passau, Germany, the son of Henry and Wilhelmina Schrader Glawe, and was baptized in that country. He came with his parents to America in 1888 and settled in Clayton Center where he was confirmed in Zion church by Rev. F. W. Seifert on April 13, 1898. He received his education in the rural Clayton County schools and was a farmer by occupation. He was also treasurer of Zion church for a number of years.
On December 4, 1907, he was married to Ella Ihde at Zion church. To them were born two children, Karl and Helen (Mrs. Eldo Johnson). Mr. Glawe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1944; by his son Karl; four brothers, Henry, Herman, John, Albert; four sisters, Minnie (Mrs. Charles Lahrs), Reka (Mrs. John Koss), Caroline (Mrs. Henry Seeland), Ella (Mrs. Fred Knoke); also two children in infancy.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Johnson, a daughter-in-law, Ida Belle Glawe, Garnavillo; grandchildren, Arlene (Mrs. Gerald Reimer), Kenneth Glawe, Eugene Johnson, Geraldine (Mrs. John Hauschild). Also [great-]grandchildren Cindy and Lisa Reimer, Brian, Kimberly and Shawn Glawe, Erin and Kristy Johnson and JoEllen, Jason and Jenny Hauschild.
Funeral services were held July 26, 1975, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, with the Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Burial was in the new Clayton Center Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harley Glawe, Verdine Glawe, LeRoy Glawe and Harry Seeland.
