James Doerring, McGregor, Iowa, March 11, 2013

James Frederick Doerring, 78, McGregor, Iowa passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at his home in McGregor surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 8, 1935 to Arno and Bernadine (Brandtman) Doerring in rural Luana. He was baptized on March 27, 1935 and confirmed on March 21, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. James attended Luana School through the eighth grade. He received his GED, took an electrical course and received his diploma.

James enlisted in the Army for two years. He was a life-time member of the Amvets Post 27 in Monona.

James married Elaine Kurth at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, on February 11, 1961. Four children were born to this union. James farmed with his wife, Elaine for sixteen years and then moved to Postville, where he drove trucks for Hall Roberts & Son until his accident, they then moved to McGregor and retired.

James loved to do woodworking, made barns and doll houses and many more things for the grandchildren. He liked cracking nuts, going to tractor pulls and walking in the woods. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding horses and going on trail rides with Whistlin’ Bit Saddle Club. He also enjoyed going to the Edgewood Rodeo, going to auctions and listening to his record collection.

James is survived by his wife, Elaine Doerring of McGregor; two daughters, Laurie (Allan) Troester of Monona and Lisa Gould of Elkader; two sons, Larry (Nancy) Doerring of Manchester and Lee Doerring of Guttenberg; five grandchildren, Aaron Troester of Cedar Falls, Ashley Troester of McGregor, Brent (Maisie) Gould of Manchester, Daisha (Chance) Vancampen of Pritchett, Colorado, Christian James (CJ) (fiancé, Jessie Wenthold) of Ossian; one great-grandson, Carsen Doerring Miller of Edgewood; three step grandchildren, Travis, Hayle and Nick Bockenstedt; three sisters, Maxine Morch of Decorah, Eunice (Myrl Dean) Dickman of Postville, Inez (Dwayne) Moon of Luana; a brother, Roland (Marlene) Doerring of Garnavillo; sister-in-law, Rosie Doerring of Monona and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Arno and Bernadine Doerring; father and mother-in-law, Eldon and Ella Kurth; a brother, Oliver Doerring; a brother-in-law, Leo Morch and a son-in-law, Tim Gould.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Steve Brackett officiating.

Burial will follow at the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa with Military Rites.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
