Joyce Ann (Radloff) Miller Dettmann, Monona, Iowa, March 29, 2013

Joyce Ann Dettmann, 82, of Monona, Iowa died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, Iowa.

She was born on July 5, 1930, to Carl and Alice (Buckman) Radloff on a farm south of Farmersburg, Iowa. Joyce was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. She attended country school in National, Iowa and graduated from Monona High School.

Joyce was united in marriage with Eugene Miller and farmed south of Monona. To this union three children were born, Connie, Sheryl and Allen. Eugene passed away in 1966. Joyce continued to farm, rented out the land and began working at Monona School as a custodian. She later worked as an elementary secretary.

She married Julius Dettmann in July 1969 and went back to farming full-time. They were honored to have their farm pictured on the National Hoards Dairyman in May 1981. They also had a farm picture on the placemats used by Land O' Lakes Co-op for their annual meeting for many years. Joyce was a devoted farm wife. After retiring from dairying, she ran a deli and sold eggs from their home. Some called her the "egg lady." Upon closing that business she went back to work off the farm, first at the care centers in McGregor and Elkader and then at the Elkader Hospital. She eventually went back to MFL MarMac Schools starting as a custodian and later as a para-professional and bus driver. She enjoyed family, friends, cooking, gardening and traveling.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Julius; her children, Connie (Dave) Olney of Johnston, Sheryl Miller of Rochester, Allen (Chris) Miller of Rochester and Dennis (Pauline) Dettmann of Monona; her grandchildren, Joe Olney, Steve Olney, Justin (Sara) Miller, Kathleen Miller, Derek Dettmann and Stacy Dettmann; her great-grandchildren, Cooper Olney and Dillon, Kayla and Mia Miller; and a brother, Roger (Judy) Radloff of Clermont.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and her brother, L'Dean Radloff.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 1, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
