KILLED NEAR ST. OLAF.
Tuesday noon while John Schmidt who had been working in the field discing, unhitched his horses, 8 abreast, and started home for dinner. On the way home he had to cross a bridge over Pony Creek near St Olaf, and when the horses approached the center of the bridge it collapsed and the horses dragged the young man down with them, causing death. He had evidently been dragged under the horses and when found was lying in about two feet of water, his skull crushed, several ribs broken and his body badly bruised. He was about 23 years of age. The horses were scratched but not seriously hurt. The bridge was 15 years old and not considered safe.- We glean from the Elkader Democrat.
