Carl Leas Melcher

Carl Leas Melcher, son of John and Effie (Leas) Melcher, was born October 13, 1913, rural Volney, in Linton Township, Allamakee County, IA. He was confirmed December 14, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona.

Carl was united in marriage to Charlotte (Lucky) Ester Daugs on December 20, 1937 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. They farmed north of Monona for over 40 years. Carl was a retired farmer. He also did carpenter work and wood working.

Carl died Monday, March 30, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, IA.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 2, 1998 at 1 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Carl; three brothers, Lester, Glenn and John Melcher; and two sisters, Amelia Walch and Arleen Hillsheim.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte (Lucky); two daughters, Shirley Ann (Allen) Krueger of Waterloo, IA. and Karen (LaAllan) Buerger of Monona, IA; seven grandchildren, Robin (Chris) Kjosa, Dawn Ondreshak, Don Reierson Jr., LeAllan Jr., Tracy, Travis and Sherri Buerger; eight great grandchildren, Katie Buerger, Jacob, Blake and Clarissa Kjosa, Ryan Jonsberg, Derek and Alicia Martie, and Christian Lozano; four brothers, Arden of Cedar Rapids, IA, Vernon of Waukon, Noel of Burlington, WA, and Ivan of Monona, IA; two sisters, Wilma Cowell of Postville, Joan McCrancey of Evansdale, IA and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were LeAllan Buerger, Kerry Melcher, Victor Schneider, Ivan Melcher, Allen Krueger, Travis Buerger, Kerry Melcher II, Paul Schneider, Vernon Melcher, and Arden Melcher.

Carl L. Melcher, 84, died Monday, March 30, 1998, in Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, after a long illness. Services 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; two daughters, Shirley Ann Krueger of Waterloo and Karen Buerger of Monona; four brothers, Arden of Cedar Rapids, Vernon of Waukon, Noel of Burlington, Wash., and Ivan of Monona; and two sisters, Wilma Cowell of Postville and Joan McCraney of Evansdale.
