Mrs. Mary Williamson Died at McGregor
Mrs. Mary Williamson, Civil war widow and a member of a prominent Clayton county pioneer family, died at her home in McGregor Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 1942 at the age of 93. The funeral was at the home at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Dwight F. Webster, pastor of the McGregor Methodist church, conducting the service. Burial was in Eastside cemetery at Elkader.
Mrs. Williamson was born Mary Miles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Miles of Perry in Wyoming, county New York, September 10, 1848. On February 12, 1868, she married at Castile, New York, Frederick Howard, Civil war veteran, who had been wounded in the Battle of Lookout Mountain and invalided' home.
Mr. Howard died in 1878, and the widow with two small children came to Boardman township in Clayton county to live with her parents who had settled there in the early 60's.
Three years later she married Henry Williamson, farmer and broom manufacturer at Pony Hollow, near Elkader. Mr. Williamson's parents came to the Elkader vicinity in 1852 from Vermont in a covered wagon.
Following the death of her second husband, Mrs. Williamson came to McGregor to live in 1922.
She is survived by a son Miles, of McGregor; two daughters, Mrs. C.G. Arnold of Spokane, Wash; and Mrs. Ruth Congdon of McGregor; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Fred Cook of Elkader; a stepson, Herbert Williamson of Winthrop, Minn; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a brother, F.M. Miles of Littleport.
