Former Guttenberg Resident Passes Away at Keystone, Iowa.
On Sunday, December 12, 1915, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Backes, at Keystone, Benton County, Iowa, Carl Ball passed away at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 8 days, the cause of his death being mostly due to old age.
Deceased was born in Germany on February 4, 1826, where he was married later. In the year 1855 he came to the United States with his family, settling on a farm in Jefferson township, where they lived for many years, after which the family came to Guttenberg to reside, where Mrs. Ball preceded him in death.
After the death of his wife deceased went to Keystone, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life with his daughter and family. He was an ambitious man during his life and was a kind and true husband, father and friend always ready with heart and hand to do kind acts for others, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
His death is mourned by three sons, Wm. Ball of Garnavillo, Louis and Charles Ball, of Guttenberg, four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Backes, of Keystone, Iowa, Mrs. Minnie Bernau, DeSoto, Iowa, Mrs. Augusta Busacker, of Talmadge, Neb., and Mrs. Lena Hagen, of Guttenberg, a number of grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends.
The body was brought to Guttenberg for burial Tuesday morning by relatives and taken to the Benj. Minger home, where funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. K. W. Braun, of Garnavillo, officiating. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends. Interment was made in the City cemetery.
