Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, for Arthur E. Solberg, who died at Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union, Sunday, February 5, 1978. The Rev. William Thalacker officiated.
Arthur E. Solberg was born Arthur Emmanuel Berg, August 5, 1899 at Hamar, in the District of Toten, Norway. He was baptized in Norway and confirmed July 12, 1915. Raised by his grandmother he took the Solberg name.
At the age of 21 he came to the United States and took a job in a factory in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After earning enough money to buy a car, he drove to this area. He stopped for lunch somewhere in the Luana-Monona area and met a farmer in need of a hired hand. He searched for a church with people from his own country and found the one at Gunder where he maintained his membership.
Arthur married Lillie Wettleson February 26, 1936. They lived on a farm near Hawkeye.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. His wife Lillie and several nieces and nephews survive.
Burial was in the Marion Cemetery.
