Halvor Wikan was born in Opal, Numedahl, Norway, Sept. 8, 1868, and passed away at his home in Eldader, Sunday, Jan. 30, 1943, after an illness of about six months.

The deceased came to America with his parents when one year old. The family settled in Highland township, Clayton county, on a farm where Halvor grew to manhood and where he lived for some time after his marriage.

He was married to Amanda Louise Meisner. To this union ten children were born, eight of whom are living. They are: Victoria (Mrs. Herman Stendel), Harold, Phyllis (Mrs. Eward Kuehl), Pfc. Lawrence, Rober, John, Marie and Helen. He also leaves to mourn his death eight grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Chris Christianson, of Elkader. Two children and two brothers, Ben and Lars Wikan and one sister, Mrs. John Johnson, preceded him in death.

Halvor Wikan was a charter member of the Highland Lutheran church. He was one of the organizers and most active workers in the establishment of the congregation and the building of the church. No task asigned to him was too great, and he was always ready to assist in the work of furthering the church and in helping a neighbor. A wide circle of friends mourn his loss and they remember the kindness and charity that was a part of him and his life.

Funeral services were conducted at Highland, Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 3, Rev. Axel Shefveland officiating.
