Funeral services were held for Herman D. Snyder on May 26, 1974 at Giard United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Rex Piercy officiating.
Herman D. Snyder was born July 2, 1891 on the old home farm near Froelich, the son of John L. and Josephine (Beaman) Snyder. He enlisted in his country's service and was inducted on Aug. 5, 1918. He married Bessie Smith of Chicago on Oct. 22, 1919. Mr. Snyder was a farmer all his life. He is the last of the children of the John Snyders. His baby brother and 3 sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Snyder entered Veterans Hospital at Knoxville, Ia. on Jan. 17 and had been ailing for some months before, but was cared for by his wife. He joined the Giard United Methodist Church during Rev. Kehrli's charge.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bessie; a daughter, Betty Paull of Helena, Mont.; a son, Gene, of San Diego, Calif.; 3 grandsons, Gary Monson of Lansing, Mich., Dwayne Monson of Anaconda, Mont., and Greg Snyder of San Diego, Calif.; and 7 great grandchildren.
Mr. Snyder belonged to American Legion Post of McGregor and Veterans of World War I.
Burial was in the family plot of Giard Cemetery. Military Escort and Service were conducted at the grave. Pallbearers were Ambrose Althoff, Reynold Kann, Fred Tangeman, Albert Erickson, John Bernhard, Lee Erickson.
