Casper Schoulte Services Held
Casper J. Schoulte, a retired farmer of the Farmersburg area, died June 12, 1978 at the age of 85 years in Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery after the funeral Mass of the Resurrection in St. Mary's Church, McGregor on Thursday, June 15. Father Robert Hirsch officiated.
Casper, the youngest son of S. H. F. and Mary (Kann) Schoulte, was born on the parental farm home in Farmersburg Township on Oct. 11, 1892. He was united in marriage to Katherine Riley on Sept. 15, 1924 at St. Mary's Church, McGregor. From that union, 4 children were born: Mary Virginia, who died Dec. 25, 1936, Julia Twombly of Dubuque, Carolyn Safranski of Troutdale, Oregon, and Francis of Farmersburg.
In 1957 he built the present home where he and his wife retired. In 1976 he was awarded the Century Farm Plaque for having lived on a farm owned by the same family for over 100 years.
His interest in humanity was expressed through his services in various civic groups: president of the school board for many years, township trustee for over 25 years, one of the original members of the McGregor Community Hospital board, member of the Farm Bureau, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine, 3 children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
