Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 3, 1998 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona for Laura Helena Sass.
Laura Helena Sass, daughter of Fred and Minnie (Theodor) Sass, was born Sept. 30, 1909 on a farm in Mendon Township. She was baptized Dec. 19, 1909 at Giard, IA by Pastor F. O. Barg. She was confirmed March 15, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Rev. Siefkes. She received her education in the rural schools.
Laura was united in marriage to Eldo Sass on Dec. 11, 1930 at St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage by Pastor Albert Daugs. Her hobbies included crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Laura died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, IA, where she had been a resident for 4 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldo, who died Dec. 1, 1973; 3 sisters, Charlotte "Lottie" Appel, Ruby Koth and Viola Stuber, and 2 brothers, Raymond Sass and Harvey Sass.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Lenth of Luana, IA; a son, Ramon Sass of Monona, IA; 5 grandchildren, Debra Fox, Danny Sass, Traci Johnson, Terry Lenth, and Tim Lenth, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Terry Lenth, Jim Johnson, Dan Sass, Dick Appel, Tim Lenth, Dave Fox, and Chet Bachman.
Burial was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Monona, IA.
