Clayton County Register, Wednesday, January 12, 1938

Otto Haman, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Haman, was born June 4, 1867, in Farmersburg township about three and one-half miles northwest of Garnavillo. Even though he spent a part of his time in furthering his education, most of the days of his youth were spent on his father's farm.

On January 23, 1890, he entered into marriage with Anna Neubauer. In March of that same year they moved on a farm about 3 1/2 miles northwest of Garnavillo, where they resided all the 47 years of their wedded life. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Amelia Kugel, Harvey Haman, Mrs. Lucy Seeland, Mrs. Adalia Mueller, Mrs. Anna Seeland and Irwin Haman.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, the above mentioned children, 15 grandchildren, 2 sisters: Mrs. Alvina Dettman and Mrs. Luella Lenth. One brother, Herman, preceded him in death.
The departed was a true and faithful Christian. Throughout his life there radiated a Christian personality. The fellow-members of his congregation realized this. Nearly 40 years he served in the capacity of church council member at National, which congregation the departed and his wife faithfully served during their wedded life. He furthermore served for many years on the school board and fair board.

The departed enjoyed good health during his lifetime until about four years ago. Even though he recovered sufficiently at that time to help with the work again, yet he never recovered his former health. Less than a year ago he became ill with broncho-pneumonia. Again he recovered sufficiently to be up and about, but this left him in a weakened condition. A week ago he became ill; broncho-pneumonia again developed and his body, weakened by previous sicknesses, had no resistance with which to ward off this last attack. Monday morning at 12:45 his Savior called him to his eternal rest. He attained the age of 70 years and seven months.
