GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Laird G. Cline, 79, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, following a long illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Prairie du Chien, Wis., with the Rev. Carson Culver officiating. Private family burial will be in God's Acre, Clermont. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, where there will be a public Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Mr. Cline worked with his father at the Cline Motor Co., Clermont. He also farmed and was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 28 years.
He was born the son of the late Fred and Frances (Gruver) Cline. He married Barnabetta Olson on Nov. 7, 1947, at The Church of Our Savior, Clermont.
He graduated from Clermont High School in 1941, and attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.
He served his country in the Army during World War II.
He was a member of Masonic Lodges in Guttenberg and Clermont, and was Past Master of the Clermont Lodge. He also was a member of the Guttenberg Order of the Eastern Star; Scottish Rite Consistory and York Rite; El Kahir Shrine and Northeast Iowa Shrine Motor Clowns; the Executive Board Upper Iowa Explorland Regional Planning Commission; and the Upper Mississippi Gaming Corp. He was the mayor of Guttenberg from 1990 to 1994.
Surviving are his wife, Barnabetta (Olson) Cline; two daughters, D'Ana Mitchell, of Aurora, Colo., and Tracey (Larry) Gardner, of Ankeny; a son, Shane (Darcy) Cline, of Guttenberg; five grandchildren, Jessica Cline, Beau Cline, Stephanie Torrez, Nina Norris and Matthew Mitchell; and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Torrez and Logan Norris.
Memorials may be given to the Guttenberg Library and the Shriners Hospital for Children, Twin Cities.
