Elmer Edwin Benson
Elmer Edwin Benson, son of Ben and Randine (Knutson) Benson, was born in Highland Township, Clayton County, on July 20, 1891, and died at the Postville Community Hospital, Postville, Iowa, on June 14, 1970, at the age of 78.
He was baptized in the Lutheran faith, Highland township, and confirmed at the Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf, Iowa, and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran faith. He received his education in the rural schools.
On January 4, 1932, he was united in marriage to Caspara Bertina Torkelson. They farmed in the local area for many years and for the past 13 years owned and operated the Gunder Store.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willie. He is survived by his widow, Caspara; his sister, Mrs. Ida Sando of Waukon, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Elgin Lutheran Church June 17, 1970, at 2 p.m., Rev. D. J. Brake officiated.
Honorary pallbearer was Orlan Landsgard. Casket bearers were Russell Larson, Quintin Torkelson, Sylvan Torkelson, Ivan Torkelson, Don Fauser and Neil Kreig.
Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery.
