SERVICES HELDFuneral services for Emil Krist DeSotel, 63, were held Friday afternoon, June 12, 1964 at 2 o'clock in St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. R. E. Langholz officiating.
Burial was in the Luana Westside City cemetery.
Mr. DeSotel had been ill for most of the last year. Recently he had spent several weeks at the hospital in Iowa City and returned home, Friday, June 5, 1964. He had to be taken to the hospital at McGregor, Tuesday morning, June 9, 1964, where he died that day.
He was born the son of Joseph and Emma, nee Timm, DeSotel, Jan. 6, 1901, in Millville township. He was baptized Feb. 10, 1901 at St. John Lutheran church in Guttenberg. He was confirmed at the same church, March 28, 1915. He received his education in the rural schools of Clayton County.
Mr. DeSotel was married to Irene Lindroth, Feb. 21, 1925, at Luana.
He owned a garage business in Luana until 1946, when he moved to Monona, engaging in carpenter work for the last 17 years.
He was an honorary member of the Luana Fire department, serving his community in this field for more than 20 years, most of them as fire chief. He also was a member of the Sportsmen's club.
An infant daughter preceded him in death.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Merle (Darlene) Funk of Buffalo, Wyo., and Mrs. Ronald (Nyla) Erb of Luana; two sons, Gordon of Guttenberg and Wayne of Monona; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Aulerich of Monona and Mrs. Emil Jaster of Ossian; two brothers, Charles and Otto of Monona; and 15 grandchildren.
Music at the services was provided by congregational singing. Mrs. George Heins was the organist.
Honorary pallbearers were: Mr. and Mrs. Alfred David, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Doerring, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Nielsen, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Berg.
Active casket bearers were: Donald Bollman, Carl Smith, Curtis Wendel, Howard Kluss, Elmer Erb, Otto Lunde, Harvey Marting, and George Wilker.
