Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for George Edward Bowles, 69, who died July 26. The Rev. Norris Swenson officiated.
Born September 27, 1908 in New York City, George was the son of James and Elizabeth (Uttridge) Bowles. His parents had immigrated from England to New York City where his father had been employed as a chauffeur. When he was 3 years old, they moved to a farm near Volga City, Iowa. During the early 1930s they moved to a farm near Wadena. George received his education in the rural schools near Volga and graduated from Volga high school.
He was baptized in 1908 and confirmed in 1940. In 1942 he was received into St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, by the Rev. Frederick Ludwig.
February 24, 1940 he was married to Eleanor Domke at Arlington, where they lived until moving to a farm near Postville in 1942. In 1969 they retired and moved to Postville.
He was preceded in death by a sister in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, a son Gary who lives in Heidelberg, Germany; a daughter Mrs. Elwyn (Judy) Dotzenrod, Decorah, and a granddaughter, Wendy.
Interment was in the West Union cemetery.
