MRS. JOHN WELLS DIES IN ILLINOIS

Lydia Wells, a 12-year resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown, Illinois, died October 14, 1981.

She had celebrated her 101st birthday September 27, 1981, planned by her daughter, Laura Leui.

Mrs. Wells was born in Bern, Switzerland September 27, 1880. A copy of her birth certificate was obtained by her son John while he was in the service in World War II. She was the youngest of 10 children, and was 11 months old when her parents migrated to the United States. They settled on a farm near Elgin. She attended school in Fayette County.

She married John Wells February 4, 1903. They spent 64 years together. The Wells' farmed many years in Clayton County before moving to Camanche. They had four children, Mrs. Laura Leui of Rock Falls, Ill., Mrs. Carl (Florence) Hanson, Mrs. Wray (Lillian) Brown, John E. Wells and wife Lula of Big Cabin, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Wells had five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a stillborn son.

Lydia Wells was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche.
