Ivon Henry John Schultz died May 25, 1988 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He was born in Clayton County on July 20, 1911 to Louis and Ella Palas Schultz.

He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luana. He received his education in Luana Consolidated High School, graduating in 1929.

Schultz farmed northeast of Postville from 1932 to 1934. He worked for Sinclair refining Company in Monona for 5 years. On April 6, 1942 he entered the U. S. Army, serving as a flight engineer on B-17 bombers. He flew bombing missions in Europe during W. W. II. He was shot down over France and spent 22 months in a German prison camp. He was honorably discharged from the army on Oct. 12, 1945.

On Nov. 23, 1942 he married Elizabeth J. Hunker at Boise, Idaho. After the war the couple lived in Jefferson, Iowa. They returned to Monona in 1947 and he owned and operated Monona Hardware for 18 years and served as Monona Police Chief until retiring in 1976.

He was a member of St. Paul's Church, serving on the council and as church secretary. He was a charter member of Monona Kiwanis Club and served as club President and Lieutenant Governor for the district of Kiwanis International. He was a member of Monona American Legion post 519.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; one brother, Harlan of Postville and 2 sisters, Berna Meier of Rogers, Ark. and Ada Todd of San Gabriel, Calif.

Services were May 27, 1988 at Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona, with Pastor Gene Kramer officiating and Florence Evans organist. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Pallbearers were members of Monona Kiwanis Club. Military rites were conducted by Leslie H. Smith American Legion Post 519, of Monona. Schultz's Funeral home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.
