Mary Carver Hauschen 1830-1885
Died: On June 11th 1885 at her home near Clayton, Mrs. Mary Ann Haeuschen, wife of John Haeuschen. The deceased was one of our oldest and most esteemed residents and a woman of many noble qualities as a wife and mother. She has been a sufferer from cancer since last November and bore her cross with Christian fortitude until death came to her relief. Mrs. Haeuschen was born in Glasglow, Scotland, June 20, 1830. She came to American in 1854; settled at Galena in 1855 where she was married to her surviving husband.
In 1857 they came to Clayton County and resided at Clayton until about ten years ago when they removed to a farm near town. Mrs. Hauschen was the mother of eight children, only three sons being now alive. She shared with her husband more than the average burden of care and trouble and sickness.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at the house. The Rev. Someriest of the Lutheran Church of Garnavillo preached the funeral sermon and it is spoken of in the highest terms. We join in the many expressions of deep sympathy for our bereaved friends.
