B. Bugenhagen Rites Are Held
Funeral services for Rudolph Carl Bugenhagen, 77, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Monona, with Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery.
Mr. Bugenhagen died suddenly at his home in Monona, Monday morning, November 30, at 7 o'clock from a heart attack. He had been suffering from a heart affliction for about 5 years, requiring hospitalization several times.
He was born a son of Carl and Louise (Kreppelene) Bugenhagen, in Germany, April 25, 1882. Shortly after his birth he was baptized. When 3 years old he came to America with his parents, settling with them on a farm near Garnavillo. When 7 years old, his mother died, after which he made his home with relatives at Luana.
He was confirmed by Rev. J. Appel March 29, 1895, at St. John's Lutheran church at Luana. He was married to Mathilda Krambeer, December 10, 1902, at the home of her parents at Postville. They went to live on a farm near Luana. They retired to Monona in January, 1943.
They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary December 10, 1952.
At Luana, Mr. Bugenhagen served as a member of the West Grove District School board for many years and also was a member of the council of St. John's Lutheran church. He was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Paul's Lutheran church. The Brotherhood attended the funeral services in a body in his honor.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Lloyd, who died in January, 1955; a sister, Mrs. Anna Eberling; a brother, Henry; 2 half brothers, and 2 half sisters.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Virgil (Gertrude) Kaiser of Monona; one son, Arno of Luana; one half brother, William Bugenhagen, Sr., of Luana; one granddaughter, Betty Jean Kaiser of Monona; and one grandson, Robert Kaiser of Waverly.
