George Hargesheimer Dies of Typhoid
Fever at Emergency Hospital.George Hargesheimer died yesterday afternoon at 2:30 at the Emergency hospital after a short illness.
His remains were shipped today to the home of his parents at Volna, Iowa, a small town on the Mississippi River about forty miles north of Dubuque.
He came to Waterloo about six months ago and secured a position as fireman on the Illinois Central. A little more than a week ago, he was stricken with typhoid fever and taken to the Emergency hospital where he died.
His mother was called here a few days ago. Yesterday morning, his condition was somewhat improved and it was hoped that he would recover About noon, however, he had a sinking spell and quickly passed into the great beyond.
He was a young man scarcely out of his teens. During his residence here he made many friends, especially among the railroad boys among whom be was a general favorite. Although not long enough here to secure a membership in the Brotherhood of Locotive Firemen's lodge, the firemen presented a fine wreath and pillow as tokens of the respect in which he was held by them.

W. T. Rose of the Waterloo Casket factory returned from Volna, Iowa, last night. He accompanied Mrs. Tangeman with the remains of her son George Hargesheimer, who died February 28, 1902 of typhoid fever at the Emergency hospital, at the age of 24 years
The funeral services were held at the Volna church. Rev. Vanise of Waukon who knew deceased from childhood, officiating. Burial took place in the Monona cemetery and was largely at tended. Mr. Rose is an old schoolmate of deceased.
George Hargesheimer came to Waterloo August 29, 1901, and started work in the shops as a machinist helper until November, when he took the examination for fireman and passed it successfully. He was well liked by all who knew him, making friends wherever he went. The railroad boys presented a beautiful pillow as a token of the respect in which he was held. Among the other floral tributes were a wreath from his sister, bouquet of carnations from Mr. and Mrs. Rose, bouquet of white flowers from Sam Rose of Dubuque, and a bouquet of roses from Mr. Schultz. of Dubuque.
