ROSS CANOE DIES ON CALIFORNIA VISIT

Funeral services for Ross William Canoe, 73, were held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 2, 1965, at 2 o'clock at the Monona Methodist church with Rev. Paul V. Clememts officiating. The body lay in state at the church from 12:30 o'clock in the afternoon until the time of the services. Burial was in the Monona City cemetery.

Mr. Canoe has suffered since last winter with heart trouble, but seemed apparently to have recovered. He and Mrs. Canoe left recently for California to spend the winter with their daughter. He died there Sunday, Nov. 28, 1965.

He was born near Monona in Allamakee county, May 8, 1892, a son of James and Lydia, nee Stafford, Canoe.

He received his education in a rural school in Clayton county.

He was married in 1918 to Eula Huffman at Waukon. They went to live at Charles City. Later they operated general grocery stores at Rossville, Tama, Kamrar, and Waverly. He also spent five years in North Dakota.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Valeria; four sisters, Stella, Mary, Margaret, and Faye; and two brothers, John and James.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Regina Mae Love of Oceanside, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Koontz of Pasadena, Calif.; one brother, Ray of Monona; and four grandchildren.

Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Ben Frese, soloist, Mrs. Ivon J. Schultz was the organist.

Honorary pallbearers were: Gus Colby, Ernest H. Stafford, E. J. Peglow, Harry Bacon, Art Riedesel, Richard Hagensick, and Robert E. Ferguson.

Active casket bearers were: Joe Rose, David Cowell, Paul Pufahl, Vern Koth, Emmet Palmer, Donald Colby, Lyle Mitchell, and Gilbert Rose.
